The town's varied terrain from valley floor to mountain slope means soil conditions must be individually evaluated. Jericho's planning commission may have additional local development requirements.

Jericho households should pump every 3 to 5 years. Higher-elevation properties near the Mount Mansfield slopes experience colder ground temperatures and should lean toward the 3-year end. Valley-floor properties with warmer soils can typically go longer between pumpings.

Jericho's mountain-slope properties frequently encounter shallow bedrock and steep grades that limit drain field options. Valley properties along Browns River deal with seasonal flooding and high water tables. The varied topography means neighboring properties can have entirely different soil and drainage challenges.
